Annual General Meeting

According to our bylaws, we must hold an annual general meeting (AGM) at least once each calendar year. Over the years, this meeting has grown into ExpoFor, the ABCFP forestry conference and AGM. It is held in different locations each February and is hosted by a local organizing committee. The AGM portion allows us to deal with important management and business affairs of the association, and the conference portion provides professional development opportunities.

AGM Business Session
The business session is the official AGM portion of the meeting. Any matters requiring a vote are restricted to eligible voting members in good standing. The agenda normally includes:

  • adoption of the minutes from the previous annual meeting
  • member recognition
  • adoption of annual reports
  • adoption of audited financial statements
  • appointment of auditors
  • appointment of one or more returning officers and scrutineers
  • reporting of council election results
  • ratification of council and staff actions
  • business resolutions (if any)
  • adjournment

AGM Resolution Sessions
Resolution sessions are an excellent opportunity for members to let council know how they feel about issues facing the association, how they would like council to react to these issues, how they would like the association to be run, etc. There are two types of resolutions, advisory resolutions and business resolutions.
