Voting

Members can influence the direction of the association by exercising their right to vote in four official association balloting processes:

1. Council Elections
Council elections occur during December and January each year. Only members in the “registered” or “retired registered” member classes are eligible to vote. [more]

2. Bylaw Amendments
Bylaw amendments must be approved by a two-thirds majority of the ballots cast. Only members in the “registered” or “retired registered” member classes can vote on bylaw amendments. [more]

3. Fee Increases
Fee increases must be approved by a simple majority. [more]

4. Other Opportunities
Association matters that arise directly from council or from business resolution sessions may also be referred to the membership for ratification by ballot. Eligibility to vote on these matters depends on the issue under consideration.

Voting
Eligible voting members are sent notification about official balloting processes by mail or e-mail. Election notifications sent by mail include a mail ballot and give members the choice to cast their vote by mail or online ballot. Election notifications sent by e-mail require that members cast their vote via online ballot. Casting ballots online is faster and easier than the traditional mail-in method.

Members can specify how they want to receive notification of upcoming official balloting processes in the Manage Your Mailings section of the members login area.
