Enrolled members (Forester-in-Training (FIT), Forestry
Pupils (FP) or Trainee Forest Technologist (TFT)) must
complete an articling period under the supervision of
a sponsor before they are eligible to write the registration
exam. Your sponsor agrees to oversee your growth and
development during your enrolment period as you work
towards becoming a registered forest professional. For
complete information on the articling period, refer
to the Articling Policy:

All Enrolled Members Must Have
a Sponsor
All applicants for ABCFP membership must identify
a sponsor in their application for membership, which
includes an Articling Agreement that is signed by the
applicant and the sponsor.

Who Can Be a Sponsor?
If you are applying as an FIT or FP, your sponsor
must be an active RPF in good standing. If you are applying
as a TFT, your sponsor must be an RPF or RFT (who has
passed the registration exam) in good standing.
Your sponsor can be your supervisor, a co-worker,
an employer or someone else in the community. A sponsor
can not be related by blood or marriage. It is most
common to have a sponsor who lives and/or works near
you to maintain a strong relationship and frequent contact.
As the relationship between you and your sponsor is
one of mutual obligation and trust, it is important
to find someone with whom you are comfortable.

Practice Diary showing a record of your work experience
and your exposure to the necessary practice areas.
Each year your sponsor is responsible for submitting
an annual assessment of your progress, with a final
evaluation provided at the end of your enrolment period. Refer
