Members of the ABCFP are obligated under the Foresters
Act to maintain their competency in their areas
of practice. In 2003, the association adopted a continuing
competency program in response to forest policy changes
that increase emphasis on professional reliance for
forest professionals. The ABCFP continuing competency
program provides a set of tools for members to maintain
their competency in their areas of practice, and a way
for the ABCFP to demonstrate the competency of its members
to government and the public.
The continuing competency program
has three elements:
1. Self-Assessment
The purpose of a self-assessment is for members to evaluate
their professional competencies, identify areas for
improvement and develop an action plan to address any
learning needs. This element was implemented in 2004
and became mandatory in 2005. [more]
2. Peer Review
This is an evaluation of your practice by another member(s)
of the ABCFP. This element is voluntary and was implemented
in 2006. [more]
3. Practice Review
In a practice review, we conduct a random sample of
our membership to assess their practice. This element
was implemented in 2008. [more]
