The history of British Columbia’s forestry profession
is based in the context of the development of forestry
practice and policy. The profession in North America
was transplanted from Europe, where it grew as a result
of policy initiatives designed to alleviate or prevent
forest crises. Looking at the historic patterns of change
in these three interrelated areas—practice, policy
and the profession—may well provide insights as
we look ahead to the next fifty years.
A history of the forestry profession in British Columbia,
entitled “Forest Practice, Policy and the Profession,”
was produced in celebration of the association’s
50th anniversary in 1997.
