There are two categories within the registered member class:
- Registered Professional Forester (RPF)
- Registered Forest Technologist (RFT)
Registered Professional Forester
Registered Professional Foresters may engage in the full range of professional forestry practice to the extent consistent with their education, training and experience. Registered Professional Foresters must affix their signature and seal or stamp to all professional documents that they prepare or are prepared under their supervision.
They are entitled to use the titles “Registered Professional Forester” or “Professional Forester” and the designations “RPF” or “R.P.F.”
Registered Forest Technologist
Registered Forest Technologists may engage in aspects of the practice of professional forestry to the extent consistent with their education, training and experience and as described in bylaws and through council policy. Registered Forest Technologists may:
- Execute, supervise the execution of, or inspect work designed by a registered professional forester or a special permit holder acting within the scope of their permit.
- Perform professional forestry work under the supervision of a registered professional forester or a special permit holder acting within the scope of their permit.
- Practice independently if doing work authorized by council through the Guidelines on Scope of Practice for Registered Forest Technologists. This policy presently includes descriptions of work that RFTs may do within the following four general practice areas: forest measurements; silviculture; forest operations; and forest protection.
Registered Forest Technologists must affix their signature and seal or stamp only to those professional documents authorized in the RFT Signing and Sealing Guidelines.
They are entitled to use the title “Registered Forest Technologist” and the designations “RFT” or “R.F.T.”
