Registered members who are no longer practicing may apply for membership in the retired registered member class. There are two categories within the retired registered member class:

  1. Retired Member
  2. Life Member

Retired Member
Registered members may be admitted into the retired class: (1) if they are no longer practicing; (2) if they do not intend to return to practice in the future; and (3) if they meet the criteria set out in the bylaws.

They are entitled to use the following titles and designations (as the case may be):

  1. “Retired Professional Forester” and “RPF(Ret)” or “R.P.F.(Ret.)”
  2. “Retired Forest Technologist” and “RFT(Ret)” or “R.F.T.(Ret.)”

Life Member
The life member category is a special category of the retired registered member class. Life members are retired members who have been granted special recognition by council for exemplary contributions to the profession and/or the practice of professional forestry. Candidates for life membership must meet the requirements set out in the bylaws. A retired or retiring member may apply to be considered for life membership themselves, may be nominated for consideration by their peers, or may be granted life membership directly by council acting on its own initiative.
