If you wish to return to the practice of professional forestry in BC and:

  • are a current member on a leave of absence (LOA), you may apply to reinstate at any time.
  • are a former member, you may be eligible for reinstatement.

Members Change of Status Procedures
  • For absences longer than 36 months, you will be required to submit a higher reinstatement fee and additional requirements* may be deemed necessary to reinstate your membership, including but not limited to completing professional educational requirements.
    • Enrolled - ASFIT, ASTFT, FIT, TFT, TNRP
    Enrolled Members Change of Status Procedures
    • You will lose two months of your work experience credit for each month, or portion thereof, while you are not a member.
    • For absences longer than 36 months, you must reapply for membership and requalify all of your work experience.

    *Requirements are determined on a case by case basis once we receive your reinstatement request.

    • Requirements are based on how long you have been off the membership roll and your activities during that time.
    • If you were employed in any capacity during your absence, as part of the application form, you will be required to provide:
      • a current detailed resume which includes all of your education and work experience; and
      • details on any steps you have taken to remain current with the practice of professional forestry during this time.

    Reapplication Requirements

    You are not eligible for reinstatement, if you were a former member who was:

    • registered with conditional status (e.g. conditional RFT or transferring member);
    • a special permit – limited license holder; or
    • an enrolled member over 3 years (36 months) ago.

    You must reapply for membership and meet the current registration requirements.

    Check Your Application Status

    • Reinstatement status requests must be approved by the Registrar, Professional Practice Committee (PPC), the Board of Examiners, and/or Council. The process takes about 4 to 6 weeks.
    • Requests are considered on an ongoing basis; a decision is rendered at the end of each month.
    • Requests received in October and early November are approved in December for the new fiscal year.
